Port Coquitlam, BC – February 26, 2025… The City of Port Coquitlam is gearing up for its third annual pothole repair blitz, scheduled for Tuesday, March 4 through to Thursday, March 6, weather permitting. This initiative emphasizes the City's commitment to maintaining safe and well-maintained roads for its residents.
Building on the success of previous years, City crews have conducted thorough inspections across Port Coquitlam, identifying potholes requiring attention. To date, inspections have been completed, and crews are prepared to address the identified issues during the upcoming period of favourable weather.
“For three years now, our Pothole Blitz has proven its value. Maintaining our city's infrastructure is a fundamental responsibility. By consistently prioritizing pothole repairs, as we've done since the first blitz, we're ensuring safe and efficient roads for our residents.” said Mayor Brad West. “We understand that every taxpayer dollar counts, and this initiative is about getting the basics right, delivering the essential services our community relies on, year after year, and demonstrating our commitment to using those resources wisely, addressing critical infrastructure needs, and providing tangible benefits for our residents of Port Coquitlam.”
The blitz will see two City crews, comprised of approximately eight staff members, working diligently from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. over the three days. In addition to pothole repairs, crews will also be incorporating gravel shoulder maintenance into their efforts, further enhancing road safety and longevity. Proactive daily patrols have been ongoing in recent months to address potholes as they appear.
The forecasted mild and dry conditions for March 4-6 are ideal for the blitz, allowing crews to complete repairs efficiently and effectively.
Residents driving or cycling in Port Coquitlam are advised to expect minor delays around work zones. The City requests that the public prioritize safety by respecting work zones and providing crews with ample space to perform their duties.
Since January, City crews have already repaired 40 potholes, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to road maintenance. In 2024, the City repaired 78 potholes during the three-day blitz. The pothole repair blitz crews are comprised of the same skilled City staff who manage road maintenance, snow clearing, street sweeping, and other essential roadway safety work.
Potholes are typically repaired within four days of being reported, whether through proactive patrols or resident service requests. In instances where a large number of potholes require attention, repairs are prioritized based on size and location, with major roads receiving priority due to higher traffic volumes and their critical role in the City's transportation network.
Residents are encouraged to report potholes through the following channels:
- Online: portcoquitlam.ca/report
- Mobile App: PoCo Sort and Report app
- Phone: 604.927.3111
The City of Port Coquitlam appreciates the public's cooperation and patience as crews work to improve road conditions.
