Countdown Begins For CPKC Holiday Train Arrival

News

The Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Holiday Train is back on the rails this season and will make its highly anticipated stop in Port Coquitlam on Friday, December 20, at 7:05 p.m., concluding its cross-country journey.

To celebrate the train’s arrival, the City of Port Coquitlam invites residents to enjoy a festive evening with free arts and culture craft activities, hot chocolate, popcorn, and a screening of The Grinch from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m in the Concession landing of the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC). The festivities will conclude with the arrival of the CPKC Holiday Train on Kingsway Avenue, between Mary Hill Road and Wilson Avenue, at 7:05 p.m.

The Holiday Train show is free to attend and is part of the Winter in the City activities. The City is encouraging everyone to come out to enjoy some holiday cheer, and show your community spirit and generosity with a donation. Bring cash or a non-perishable food donation if you are able. SHARE Family and Community Service’s holiday drive will set up a collection station at this event at the train arrival point to help people in need in the community. Because local food shelves buy food at a discount, cash donations can go further than food donations to help those in need.

This is the CPKC Holiday Train’s 26th anniversary. The three-week, 10,000-kilometre journey began Nov. 21 in New Brunswick and will visit more than 150 communities before its final performance in Port Coquitlam featuring Magic! and Sofia Camara from 7:15 to 7:45 p.m.

Accessible Parking
Free parking will be available at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC). People are advised to dress for the weather and have a reflective item on their clothing to make sure they can be seen when crossing the streets in the dark.

Parking Lot Closures

The West Coast Express parking lot will be closed for this event. Riders are encouraged to take advantage of free parking at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC) or the Kingsway Avenue and Wilson Avenue parking lot.

Road Closures

Road closures will be in place for Kingsway Avenue between Mary Hill Road and Wilson Avenue from 3:00 – 9:00 p.m.
