Metro Vancouver Stage 2 Water Restrictions Take Effect May 1

News

Metro Vancouver is moving to Stage 2 water restrictions effective May 1 as part of the region’s Drinking Water Conservation Plan.

In Port Coquitlam, Stage 2 restrictions will apply to all residential and non-residential properties.

Under Stage 2, lawn watering is prohibited. Topping up or filling water features is also prohibited.

For residential properties, watering trees, shrubs and flowers is permitted any day from 5 to 9 a.m. using an automatic or manual sprinkler, or at any time by hand watering or drip irrigation. Hoses used for hand watering must have an automatic shut off nozzle. Vegetable gardens may be watered at any time.

For non-residential properties, watering trees, shrubs and flowers is permitted any day from 4:00 to 9:00 a.m. using an automatic or manual sprinkler, or at any time by hand watering or drip irrigation. Hoses used for hand watering must have an automatic shut off nozzle. Vegetable gardens may be watered at any time.

The City will support implementation through public education, outreach and enforcement. Water conservation ambassadors will help share information with residents and businesses about the new restrictions, while Port Coquitlam Bylaw Services will respond to complaints and enforcement matters as needed.

Metro Vancouver has indicated that Stage 3 water restrictions are anticipated to begin June 1. Residents and businesses are encouraged to begin adjusting their outdoor water use now to prepare for further restrictions in the weeks ahead.

Residents who observe watering violations are encouraged to report them through the City’s Sort and Report app, online at portcoquitlam.ca/report, or by phone at 604.927.3111.
