PORT COQUITLAM, B.C. – August 27, 2025…Join the City of Port Coquitlam in celebrating 45 years of Terry Fox's legacy at the annual Terry Fox Hometown Run on Sunday, September 14, with the run starting at 10:00 a.m. This year's event invites participants to embody Terry’s motto, "Finish It." Terry started a marathon against cancer. Together, we can finish it.
The run kicks off at the Terry Fox Registration Tent at the Hyde Creek Recreation Centre (1379 Laurier Avenue), with registration opening at 8:00 a.m. This year, the route has been extended, leading participants past the new inspirational sculptures at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC), which honour local champions and Terry's enduring spirit. Along the path, participants will find water stations and inspiring messages to keep them motivated. The route is wheelchair-accessible, welcoming everyone to walk, run, cycle, or use any form of movement to contribute to cancer research.
“For 45 years, our community has come together to honor one of our greatest heroes, Terry Fox," says Mayor Brad West. "This event is a powerful reminder of his determination and a testament to the power of a single idea and the collective action of a community. Seeing residents of all ages and abilities participate is truly inspiring, and we are proud to continue this tradition that brings hope to so many, ensuring his incredible legacy lives on.”
More than just a fundraiser, the event serves as a powerful testament to our community's resilience and unified commitment to taking a stand against cancer, all while celebrating Terry's courageous legacy.
"This year, as we pass the new sculptures, we'll be reminded that Terry's example has inspired countless local champions who are also making a difference in the lives of others.” says Mayor West.
Gateway of Giants Unveiling
The run's extended route provides an opportunity for participants to experience a historic moment for the community. The run takes place just one day after the official unveiling of the Gateway of Giants, a new public art installation honouring Terry Fox, at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre on Saturdy, September 13 at 11:00 a.m. The sculptures are designed to inspire all who see them, embodying Terry's journey and spirit.
