Recycle Your Christmas Tree And More After The Holidays – Jan. 3-4, 2026

News

Once the holiday season is behind us, Port Coquitlam residents can conveniently recycle their Christmas trees and a wide range of household items at the City’s annual Tree Chipping and More event.

The event takes place Saturday and Sunday, January 3 and 4, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Port Coquitlam Fire Hall No. 1 (1725 Broadway Street). A $10 minimum donation is requested to support the Port Coquitlam Fire Fighters Charitable Society. Donations can be made online at portcoquitlam.ca/treechip.

In addition to tree chipping, the event accepts the following items for recycling:

  • Christmas lights
  • Small appliances
  • Batteries
  • Lightbulbs
  • Electronics
  • Styrofoam
  • Cardboard
  • Soft plastics (such as plastic bags)

City staff and firefighters will be on site to assist with unloading trees. Residents are asked to remove all lights, tinsel, decorations, tree stands and plastic bags before arrival, as these items pose safety hazards during chipping.

Tree Pick-Up Service

Residents who are unable to attend the event in person may arrange for curbside tree pick-up by completing the online form at portcoquitlam.ca/treechip or by calling 604-927-5375. A minimum $20 donation applies.

Applications will be accepted until 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. Requests submitted after this time may not be accommodated. Trees should be placed curbside for pick-up by firefighters.

Firefighters generously donate their time for this annual event, and all wood chips produced are reused in City parks, gardens and trails.

Residents are asked not to drop off trees outside of the scheduled event dates.

Put It in Your Green Cart

Residents also have the option of recycling their Christmas trees through curbside organics collection:

Remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel and the tree stand

  • Cut the tree into pieces no larger than 3 inches in diameter and 40 inches long
  • Place pieces in the green cart, ensuring the lid can fully close
  • Chopped-up trees, food scraps and yard trimmings are sent to a regional composting facility and turned into soil amendments for topsoil.
