Terry Fox Hometown Run Traffic Information and Road Closures

Participants can register at the registration tent beginning at 8:00 a.m. for the Terry Fox Hometown Run at the Hyde Creek Recreation Centre (1379 Laurier Avenue) in Port Coquitlam. The run begins at 10:00 a.m.

People are encouraged to run, walk, skateboard, ride a bike, rollerblade or just about anything they choose during the event on this wheelchair accessible route. Everyone is welcome to participate in this annual Canadian tradition to join and fundraise. Play a part and cheer on participants as they pass through the community. The idea is to have FUN while raising funds for cancer research.

Route and registration information is available at portcoquitlam.ca/terryfox. The routes will be marked and there will be traffic control at major intersections. Participants are asked to keep to the right at all times and to watch for oncoming traffic.

As parking will be limited in the area, the City is encouraging participants to plan ahead and allow for extra time for their journey by taking transit, walking or cycling to the run.

Traffic Information and Road Closures

The Hyde Creek Recreation Centre will remain open during the event however the parking lot access will be closed from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to consider alternative transportation options as parking is limited and Laurier Avenue will be closed to traffic.

The following extra traffic control measures will be put into place by volunteers and the RCMP to ensure the safety of participants:

Full Road Closures

  • 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.: 1300 block Laurier Avenue from Hyde Creek Recreation Centre to Coast Meridian Road.
  • 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.:
    • Coast Meridian Road (northbound and southbound lanes) from Laurier Avenue to Kingsway Avenue (Detour via Lincoln Ave to Oxford Ave or Patricia Ave to Burns Rd).
    • Coast Meridian Connector north of Tim Horton's (access to Tim Horton's via Lougheed Hwy).
    • Coast Meridian Overpass (Detour east/west along Lougheed Hwy).
    • 2100-1700 block of Kingsway Ave from Wilson Ave to Broadway Ave (Detour via Langan Ave).
    • 2100 block of Kelly Ave from Mary Hill Rd to Kingsway Ave.

No Parking: On both sides of Kingsway Ave (from Wilson Ave to Broadway Ave) and the 1300 block of Laurier Ave.

Local residents affected by these closures will have access to their homes and may need to show identification at checkpoints. Detours will be in place, and residents are advised to follow signage and traffic control personnel.

Residents are also encouraged to avoid driving in the affected areas on Sunday morning and to remove any parked vehicles by 8:00 a.m. to allow event volunteers to set up.
