Port Coquitlam's natural beauty, captured by local photographers, is featured once again in the 2024 City calendar that will start arriving in mailboxes in the first week of December.
The 2024 community calendar has been revamped and features information for everyone where residents can easily find what they need, understand what they find with minimal clutter and maximum white space. The new features are part of the City's goal to improve the accessibility of publications and provide alternative ways for people to gather information.
The City's annual calendar and Sort it Right Guide will be mailed directly to all Port Coquitlam households and businesses. The Sort it Right Guide outlines how to sort your recycling, shows what is not accepted, and includes a collection calendar.
Entitled Naturally PoCo, the scenic calendar includes:
- Information about City events, services and meetings.
- Waste collection schedule in the monthly calendars.
- Space in the monthly calendars for writing personal schedules.
Highlighted throughout the calendar are striking photos of Port Coquitlam flowers, wildlife and landscapes, submitted by community shutterbugs following a call for photos. Over 500 photos were received, many of which will be used in City publications and will be posted online Dec. 1 at portcoquitlam.ca/photos.
Sort it Right
Residents are also encouraged to use the City's free Sort & Report app. A one-stop resource with a wide variety of uses. Sort waste on the go, report problems, get collection alerts and more. The app can be downloaded for free at portcoquitlam.ca/sortreport to see your collection schedule, set reminders, report problems and use the search tool.
Proper waste-sorting is a prevalent theme throughout the calendar, as the City's campaign is asking residents and businesses not to "wishcycle" as it seeks to avoid significant fines for mis-sorted waste and soiled recyclables. When one wishcycles, more goes to the landfill. Tips on how to Sort it Right! are on each month's page, to help residents understand what goes - and doesn't go - into their waste carts.
Submit Images
Residents can submit high-resolution images of Port Coquitlam landscapes, flowers and wildlife beginning Jan. 1, 2024 at portcoquitlam.ca/photos for a chance to see them featured in the 2025 community calendar, lining local streets or displayed at City facilities next year.
The calendar can be downloaded at portcoquitlam.ca/2024calendar. A collection schedule and zone map can be downloaded from portcoquitlam.ca/waste (see Collection Schedule and Zone Map page).
The calendars are being delivered in 100% biodegradable plastic bags, and were printed on FSC-certified paper with at least 10% post-consumer recycled content.
