Jon Baillie Arena Set To Host WHL Pre-Season Games

PORT COQUITLAM, BC - June 26, 2023... The City of Port Coquitlam will once again host the Western Hockey League (WHL) pre-season games - Vancouver Giants vs. Prince George Cougars and Victoria Royals taking on the Cougars at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC) - Jon Baillie Arena in the fall.

The Jon Baillie Arena will host two WHL games:

  • Fri. Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. Vancouver Giants vs. Prince George Cougars
  • Sat. Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. Victoria Royals vs. Prince George Cougars

"We are thrilled to host the WHL pre-season games once again, here in the City of Port Coquitlam. The City takes great pride when we bring together hockey fans into the heart of our vibrant community." Mayor Brad West said. "As we witnessed last year our community are big fans and strong supporters of hockey and we will deliver yet, another unforgettable experience for everyone."

The Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC) is perched on the edge of the downtown and is a vibrant community hub offering a wide variety of new and enhanced amenities.

Located at 2150 Wilson Ave. housing three arenas (including a spectator arena with seating of 751 with a total capacity in the viewing area of 843), a gymnasium, a leisure pool, a fitness centre and studios, a children's area for City Preschool and childminding, Terry Fox Library and a concession with snacks and drinks that overlooks the spectator arena, the large Mabbett Hall and other multi-purpose spaces, washrooms and changerooms with universal and accessible options, and underground parking with 425 spots and a pick-up/drop-off area.

The main entrance on Wilson Avenue greets visitors with plaza seating and gardens. Access is also possible from the south-side known as the Terry Fox Hometown Square, which features seating, lawn, sport courts (including pickleball), playgrounds, a walking path, community gardens, a outdoor spray park connected to the leisure pool and an outdoor gym (equipment coming later this summer). A café in the lobby and active rehab/physiotherapy near the fitness centre.

"It was a great success hosting the WHL preseason games last year," said Cllr. Steve Darling, Council's designate for recreation. "This will once again be a special experience for the players and exciting games for the fans in our community."

Tickets for the pre-season games will be made available via the WHL website at whl.ca. Tickets for each game will be sold by the individual WHL teams.
