Culture Days in Port Coquitlam Continues This Month

Celebrate Culture Days with free arts and culture programming for all ages until October 15. For details, see portcoquitlam.ca/culturedays.

Culture Days is a national celebration of arts and culture. Millions of people attend thousands of free participatory arts and culture events across the country. Culture Days programs invite the public to get hands-on and behind-the-scenes to highlight the importance of arts and culture in our communities.

October 12: Opening Reception for Fall Art ExhibitionsFrom 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., you're invited to the opening reception for three inspiring new art exhibitions in Leigh Square. Meet local and international artists as you learn about their creative work. Light refreshments will be served.

In the Michael Wright Art Gallery, Stories in Light is an international juried exhibition of watercolour paintings presented by the Port Coquitlam chapter of the International Watercolour Society of Canada as part of the International Watercolour Summit. The exhibition features local, national and international artists from China, Belgium, Australia and Nepal.

In the Outlet Gallery, Neither Here Nor There, but Everywhere is a group exhibition of artists exploring their personal stories of emigration and immigration. The City Hall Gallery features Port Coquitlam artist Angela Tahara's Wax Fusion paintings.

October 12 - 16: Watercolour Summit EventsIn conjunction with the Stories in Light exhibition, the International Watercolour Society of Canada is partnering with Art Focus Artists Association and the PoCo Arts Council to present 5 days of artist demonstrations by national and international watercolour painters, plein air painting and watercolour battle events.

October 13: Watercolour Battle - The Outlet

  • 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.: Watch internationally renowned masters battle it out in a time-limited watercolour painting contest.
  • 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.: Watercolour painting demonstration with Chinese artist Zhigang Zhu in the Michael Wright Art Gallery

October 14: Watercolour Painting Demonstrations - Michael Wright Art Gallery

  • 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.: Port Coquitlam artist Coral Chen
  • 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.: Australian artist Danni Liu
  • 3:15 - 4:45 p.m.: Nepalese artist NB Gurung

October 15: Local Plein Air Painting

  • 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.: Join master watercolour artists for a fun and relaxing morning of outdoor plein air painting along the Coquitlam River between Gates Park and Lions Park. Whether you're an experienced artist or a beginner, this is the perfect opportunity to learn new techniques and create something beautiful.

October 16: Watercolour Painting Demonstrations - Michael Wright Art Gallery

  • 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.: Ontario artist Natalia Outkina
  • 11:15 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.: Ontario artist Ian Wright
  • 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.: Canadian artist Reha Sakar
