Port Coquitlam, BC - AUG., 7, 2024...The second annual Car Free Day event, presented by Translink is returning to McAllister Avenue in downtown Port Coquitlam on September 7 from noon to 8:00 p.m. This event will coincide with the WHL Pre-Season game on September 7.
Exploring downtown Port Coquitlam has never been easier via transit, walking or cycling. Celebrate this free festival that will feature two stage areas, a variety of food and beverages, free entertainment, displays, family activities and more. Join us for a day full of fun.
"Join us downtown for a vibrant, free, and family-friendly Car Free Day street festival," said Mayor Brad West. "It's a great opportunity to enjoy the revitalization that's ongoing in downtown Port Coquitlam and explore alternative modes of transportation-be it transit, cycling, walking, and more."
TransLink encourages sustainable transportation to local destinations via its many campaigns such as the Ride & Shine Campaign, This year's campaign offers a new bike valet service, discounts to local summer destinations, and a series of Car Free festivals.
"Car Free Day is all about exploring your local area without driving." said Cllr. Paige Petriw, Council's designate on community experience, celebrations, events, and inclusion. "It's a fun way to enjoy the day and try out greener ways to get around."
The festival will feature sustainable and active transportation, an assortment of food and drink options, and entertainment including music, dance performances, and family activities. Attendees will also be encouraged to take a car-free pledge.

- Free family-friendly activities like mini golf, ninja obstacle course, and a bicycle skills zone;
- Roving entertainers
- Booths presented by local businesses and community groups; and

Car-free days take place across the country and aims to inspire people to get out of their cars, interact with each other, and explore alternative modes of transportation.
WHL Pre-season Games
The City of Port Coquitlam will be hosting two Western Hockey League (WHL) pre-season games - Vancouver Giants vs. Victoria Royals on Sat. Sept. 7 at 7:00 p.m and on Sun. Sept. 8 at 2:00 p.m at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC) - Jon Baillie Arena.
Tickets will be available to purchase for $16 (plus tax) online or by phone beginning next week.
