44th Annual Terry Fox Hometown Run At Hyde Creek

The 44th annual Terry Fox Hometown Run is on Sunday Sept. 15 at 10:00 a.m. Registration opens at 8:00 a.m. at the Terry Fox Registration tent at the Hyde Creek Recreation Centre.

The tagline for this year's Terry Fox Run, which celebrates Fox's unwavering determination and is featured on its t-shirts, is "No Matter What.". This event brings together communities across Canada to participate in the 2024 Terry Fox Hometown Run. Participants can run, walk, skateboard, cycle, or use any other form of movement on this wheelchair-accessible route. Everyone is encouraged to take part, with no barriers to join or fundraise. The event is about having fun while contributing to cancer research.

Route Information

Participants will travel to the Terry Fox Hometown Square at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre, passing milestones from Fox's 1980 journey before returning to the Hyde Creek Recreation Centre. Due to limited parking, participants are encouraged to use transit, walk, or cycle. For route details and registration information, visit portcoquitlam.ca/terryfox. Traffic control measures will be in place at major intersections, and participants should keep to the right and remain aware of oncoming traffic.

Traffic Information and Road Closures

The Hyde Creek Recreation Centre will remain open during the event however the parking lot access will be closed from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to consider alternative transportation options as parking is limited and Laurier Avenue will be closed to traffic.We apologize for the inconvenience.

Full Road Closures

  • 6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.: 1300 block Laurier Avenue from Hyde Creek Recreation Centre to Coast Meridian Road.
  • 9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.:
    • Coast Meridian Road (northbound and southbound lanes) from Laurier Avenue to Kingsway Avenue (Detour via Lincoln Avenue to Oxford Avenue or Patricia Avenue to Burns Rd).
    • Coast Meridian Connector north of Tim Horton's (access to Tim Horton's via Lougheed Hwy).
    • Coast Meridian Overpass (Detour east/west along Lougheed Hwy).
    • 2100-1700 block of Kingsway Avenue from Wilson Avnuee to Broadway Avenue (Detour via Langan Avenue).
    • 2100 block of Kelly Avenue from Mary Hill Rd to Kingsway Avenue.

No Parking: On both sides of Kingsway Avenue (from Wilson Avenue to Broadway Avenue) and the 1300 block of Laurier Avenue.Local residents affected by these closures will have access to their homes and may need to show identification at checkpoints. Detours will be in place, and residents are advised to follow signage and traffic control personnel.

Residents are also encouraged to avoid driving in the affected areas on Sunday morning and to remove any parked vehicles by 7:00 a.m. to allow event volunteers to set up.
