Atmospheric River Updates

Notice

Update: (Oct. 20, 9:20 am): City staff worked tirelessly through the night, playing a crucial role in managing storm impacts and ensuring public safety throughout the City and crews are out now continuing the cleanup efforts. Water levels have been receding, and drainage systems are functioning at full capacity.

Extreme rainfall on the steep mountainous terrain above Coquitlam Reservoir has resulted in drinking water turbidity (cloudiness) in eastern portions of Metro Vancouver. As a result, treatment and disinfection levels have been increased as a safety precaution and Metro Vancouver is operating the water system to maximize water quality.

Coast Meridian Rd has been inspected and will be reopened to all traffic between Prairie Ave and Apel Dr within the next hour. As well as Langan Ave between Brown and Broadway.

Closures are still in place for:

  • Entire PoCo Trail
  • Gates Park NW parking lot
  • All ball diamonds and soccer fields

This will be the last update for October 20, 2024, regarding the weekend’s storm.

  •  Rain is expected to continue overnight.
  •  If you must travel, please be cautious as conditions can change rapidly.
  •  We strongly encourage residents to stay away from all trails, forested areas, steep slopes, and waterways due to public safety concerns about falling branches or trees and swollen creeks.
