Proper management of the City’s assets is essential to providing the municipal services that maintain residents’ quality of life, now and in the future.
Port Coquitlam has an asset base of approximately $1.3 billion in infrastructure that includes buildings, parks, roads, fleet/equiptment, information technology and the water, drainage and sewer systems. Most of the City’s infrastructure built in the 1960s and 1980s is beginning to show signs of age. As assets approach the end of their lives, resources are required to ensure the continuation of current service levels.
Importance of Asset Management
A corporate-wide asset management program ensures the City is investing in the renewal of its assets at a sustainable level, and is balancing those financial requirements with the demand for new services.
Additionally, it provides tools and metrics to evaluate the performance of assets over their service life and to make operational changes to maximize their value.
Port Coquitlam completed an Asset Management Strategy in 2019, and completed Asset Management Plans in 2024 for each of its eight asset categories: Transportation, Drainage, Water, Sanitary, Facilities, Parks, Fleet & Equipment, and Information Services.
