PORT COQUITLAM, BC – February 10, 2025… The City Port Coquitlam is inviting residents to show their appreciation for local volunteers by submitting nominations for the 2025 Volunteer Recognition Awards by March 6.
The Volunteer Recognition Awards celebrate the invaluable contributions of volunteers in making a positive difference in the community. Their efforts inspire others to get involved and encourage ongoing volunteerism. Established in 1997, the program acknowledges and honours Port Coquitlam’s outstanding volunteers.
“Volunteers are the heartbeat of our community, selflessly giving their time and talents to inspire positive change.” said Mayor Brad West. “Recognizing the incredible contributions of our volunteers not only celebrates their efforts but also encourages others to step up and engage in meaningful work within our community.”
Nominations can be submitted online at portcoquitlam.ca/volunteerawards in one of four categories:
- Port Coquitlam Volunteer of the Year – Recognizing outstanding contributions in Arts, Heritage & Cultural Awareness; Caring & Safety; Environmental Protection & Enhancement; and Youth Programs.
- NEW - Sports & Recreation Volunteer of the Year - Honouring individuals who contribute to sports, fitness, and recreation programs, including coaching, event support, and accessibility in sports.
- Future Leader, Youth Volunteer of the Year – Recognizing volunteers under 25 who demonstrate leadership and dedication to their community.
- Lifetime Volunteer – Celebrating individuals with a longstanding commitment to volunteering and making a lasting impact.
All eligible nominees receive special recognition from the City, regardless of whether they win an award. Each nominee will receive a commemorative pin and two tickets to the exclusive Volunteer Recognition Awards and Tribute event, which features an evening of entertainment, food, and celebration in April.
Award recipients will be presented with a personalized etched glass award and will have their names added to the volunteer honour roll at City Hall. Since the program’s inception, more than 145 individuals have been recognized, with hundreds of nominees acknowledged for their contributions.
“The Volunteer Recognition Awards is a wonderful opportunity to honour those who make a difference in Port Coquitlam,” said Mayor West. “Let’s shine a light on the exceptional individuals who embody the spirit of giving."
