The City of Port Coquitlam is implementing a new campaign designed to encourage responsible pet waste disposal and enhance the cleanliness and beauty of Port Coquitlam's parks. Entitled PoCo's Best Bins: Lift, Drop & Leave it Better, this community-wide initiative aims to transform how residents interact with pet waste bins.
This campaign directly addresses the challenge of proper pet waste disposal and specifically, the common reluctance to touch bin latches. By making the process as easy and engaging as possible, the City aims to increase awareness of proper bin usage, encourage consistent action, and foster a stronger sense of community pride and responsibility for our shared green spaces.
Throughout Port Coquitlam's parks, existing dog waste bins are receiving new enhancements. These enhancements include:
• The bins will feature new, easy-to-read designs and clear visuals. Inside the bin lids, "Thank You!" stickers will be visible.
• At nine pilot sites, biodegradable ground stencils with paw print trails will guide users directly to bins, while eye-level signage will provide simple, easy-to-understand reminders like "Lift & Drop!"
This campaign's core message is communicated through a simple, four-step visual guide: Bag It, Lift It, Drop It, and Leave it Better! This clear process is being incorporated on new bin stickers and signage to make proper disposal effortless for everyone.
Get Involved and Win
To celebrate cleaner parks and encourage community participation, the City is launching a social media contest. Dog owners are invited to post photos of themselves taking part in the campaign using the new PoCo's Best Bins on social media with the hashtag #PoCoScoop. The most creative posts will have a chance to win one of three $100 gift certificates to a local Port Coquitlam pet store. The contest closes on August 17, 2025.
Using the bins correctly is a simple action that makes a big difference in maintaining clean, enjoyable parks for all residents and their pets. The City of Port Coquitlam is committed to working together with the community to keep our parks beautiful.
