City of Port Coquitlam Emergency Test Alert - Oct. 16

News

The City of Port Coquitlam will issue a City-wide test alert through its emergency notification system, Alertable, on October 16 at 10:30 a.m., following the ShakeOut BC earthquake drill.

This will be the third public test of the system, which is designed to provide residents with timely local information during emergencies, including evacuation alerts and orders.

Residents are asked to follow the instructions in the test carefully so the City can confirm the system is working properly. Please do not call 9-1-1 when you receive your test notification.

The message will be clearly marked with the word TEST in both text and voice recordings. In an actual emergency, messages will not include the word TEST and will instead provide specific details and instructions.

How to Prepare

Residents registered for the Alertable app are encouraged to:

  • Ensure push notifications are enabled.
  • Verify the app is updated to the latest version.
  • Re-download the app if it has not been used recently, as devices may off-load unused apps.

Why Alertable Matters

The Alertable app is an important tool for staying informed during emergencies such as earthquakes. It provides clear, actionable information including evacuation, lockdown, or avoidance instructions. Download at portcoquitlam.ca/alertable.

Sign Up and Win

Residents who download the Alertable app by October 16 will be automatically entered to win a two-person emergency kit. Current app users will also be included in the draw.

Using the Alertable App

Alertable delivers City-specific alerts and is different from the national Alert Ready system, which provides province-wide notifications. Features include:

  • Critical Alerts for large-scale emergencies that can override silent mode if enabled.
  • Location-Based Alerts for your current location or across the City.
  • Customizable Notifications for advisory, disruption, or information alerts.
