Port Coquitlam Invites Community To Celebrate 103rd May Days

Port Coquitlam, BC – April 9, 2026… The City of Port Coquitlam is inviting residents and visitors to celebrate the 103rd May Days, with a full week of community events culminating in the iconic May Day Parade and Party in the Square on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

One of Port Coquitlam’s longest-running traditions, May Days brings thousands of people together each spring to celebrate community spirit, local culture and family fun in the heart of downtown.

“May Days is where Port Coquitlam’s community spirit shines brightest,” said Mayor Brad West. “Join us in downtown Port Coquitlam for a day filled with tradition, celebration and fun for all ages, from the excitement of the parade to the energy of Party in the Square. May Days is one of our most anticipated annual events and a chance to come together as a community to celebrate what makes Port Coquitlam so special.”

Event Highlights

Opening Ceremonies

Sunday, May 3, 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. - Port Coquitlam Community Centre

May Days begins with the Opening Ceremonies, a tradition dating back to 1923. The event features traditional Maypole dancing by children and seniors, dance performances, the presentation of the 2026 May Day Royal Party, and more live entertainment. The first 103 people through the door will receive a free one-day recreation pass.

Choir Concert

Friday, May 8, 7:00 p.m. - Leigh Square Stage

Residents are invited to enjoy a free choir concert by Choral Connections in Leigh Square.

PoCo Kids’ Bike Race

Saturday, May 9, 10:00 a.m. - Downtown Port Coquitlam

The day begins with the popular PoCo Kids’ Bike Race, a free, fun and non-competitive event for children held before the parade. Registration is now open at portcoquitlam.ca/register. Races are scheduled by age category: ages 3 to 5, ages 5 to 8, and ages 9 to 12.

May Day Parade

Saturday, May 9, 11:00 a.m. - Downtown Port Coquitlam

The May Day Parade remains one of the longest-running community parades in the Lower Mainland and a signature part of May Days celebrations. Residents can also enjoy the Pre-Parade Pancake Breakfast from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at The Outlet, hosted by PoCo Scouts.

Party in the Square

Saturday, May 9 – 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. - Terry Fox Hometown Square

Following the parade, downtown Port Coquitlam will transform into a full-day celebration during Party in the Square, featuring live music and entertainment, carnival rides and games, food trucks, a beverage garden, children’s activities and more.

“May Days is a celebration of community, tradition and family fun. It is always wonderful to see people of all ages come together in downtown Port Coquitlam to enjoy this long-standing event,” said Cllr. Paige Petriw, Council’s designate for community experience, celebrations, events and inclusion.
