Port Coquitlam, B.C. – June 1, 2026…In just 10 days, Port Coquitlam residents and visitors will be able to cheer together as the City launches PoCo’s Soccer Socials, a free public viewing series at Terry Fox Hometown Square from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
Supported by a $30,000 grant from the Province of British Columbia, the series will bring the community together to watch select international soccer matches on a large outdoor screen provided by Valley Tech, with programming centred on Canada match days, host-country games, Vancouver-hosted matches, marquee international games and key knockout-round matches. A smaller secondary screen will also be available inside the Community Centre for select overlapping matches, giving attendees the opportunity to follow more than one game when schedules align.
"PoCo's Soccer Socials is about bringing people together to share in the excitement of one of the world's biggest sporting events right here in our community," said Mayor Brad West. "It's a chance to cheer on Canada, enjoy the atmosphere downtown, support our local businesses and be part of something truly special."
The viewing area will be located in the licensed landing area outside the Jon Baillie Arena at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre, 2150 Wilson Avenue. The outdoor space accommodates up to 800 attendees with a mix of seating and standing areas. Attendees will be able to enjoy the matches outdoors while bringing beverages from the licensed area and food and drinks from the on-site concession, which will feature game day specials throughout the series. Free underground parking is available at the Community Centre.
Canada’s match days are key elevated dates for the series:
Friday, June 12 at 12:00 p.m. – Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina
Thursday, June 18 at 3:00 p.m. – Canada vs Qatar
Wednesday, June 24 at 12:00 p.m. – Switzerland vs Canada
On elevated match days, the City is planning additional on-site activities to help create a festive and family-friendly experience. Activities include participation from PoCo Soccer, Arts & Culture programming, youth-focused activities through PoCo Youth, and a City information booth with giveaways.
"Soccer has a unique way of bringing people together, and this series gives us the chance to celebrate that right here at home. I hope residents and visitors will come out and be part of the excitement." said Councillor Steve Darling, council designate for sports and recreation.
The City is also working with the Downtown Port Coquitlam Business Improvement Association and local partners to help animate the downtown area throughout the series. Local restaurants, cafés and hospitality businesses are encouraged to celebrate the season in their own way, with many expected to offer match-day features, lunch or dinner specials, country-inspired menus, and soccer-themed promotions as the tournament unfolds.
Local businesses interested in being featured can submit their specials and promotions at portcoquitlam.ca/soccer. Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore what local businesses have to offer before and after each viewing. Information on participating businesses will be available at portcoquitlam.ca/soccer.
The Port Coquitlam Community Centre is open Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and weekends from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Select matches will be shown during regular facility operating hours. The viewing schedule, including main screen and secondary screen matches, will be available at portcoquitlam.ca/soccer.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket, dress for the weather and wear red and white on Canada match days. Share your experience on social media using #PoCoSoccerSocials and tag us at @CityofPoCo on Instagram and facebook.com/portcoquitlam on Facebook.
