Port Coquitlam residents will select a mayor, six councillors and two school trustees on October 17, 2026.
Anyone who is a Canadian citizen, 18 years of age or older, and has lived in B.C. for at least six months as of October 17, 2026, can register to vote. Residents can register to vote at advance polls or on General Voting Day.
Advance voting will be held 8 am – 8 pm on:
October 7, 2026, at Port Coquitlam Community Centre – Mabbett Hall (2150 Wilson Ave), and
October 10, 2026, at Hyde Creek Recreation Centre.
All eligible Port Coquitlam voters will also be able to apply to vote by mail, with mail ballot applications opening in early September.
Voters must be:
a resident of Port Coquitlam, or a non-resident property elector (property owners who live outside the City may also be eligible to vote provided they meet eligibility requirements),
18 years of age or older as of Oct. 17, 2026,
a Canadian citizen,
a B.C. resident for the past six months, and
not disqualified from voting.

Those interested in running for Mayor, Councillor or School Trustee can download a candidate information package at portcoquitlam.ca/elections. The nomination period runs from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 1 to 4:00 p.m. Friday, September. 11, 2026. Prospective candidates should have two qualified nominators and are encouraged to make an appointment to submit their nomination documents at the Election Office [email protected].
Qualifications for Office:
To be nominated, elected and hold office as Mayor, Councillor or School Trustee, you must be:
a Canadian citizen,
18 years of age or older on election day (Oct. 17, 2026),
a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before the day you file your nomination papers, and
not be disqualified by the Local Government Act from voting in a B.C. election or from being nominated for, being elected to, or holding office.
One mayor, six councillors and two school trustees will be elected to a four-year term. Cities and school boards are the closest level of government to residents, making decisions that affect property taxes, development in our community, City services and schools.
