Port Coquitlam voters don’t have to wait until Oct. 17 to cast their vote for a new mayor, six councillors and two school trustees.
Qualified voters can head early to vote at the advanced polls on:
Wednesday, Oct. 7 (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (Mabbett Hall) . and
Saturday, Oct. 10 (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) at Hyde Creek Recreation Centre, 1379 Laurier Ave.
Voters can apply for a mail ballot online at portcoquitlam.ca/mailballot between Aug. 31 and Oct. 2, or in person at the Elections Office (2nd Floor, City Hall, 2580 Shaughnessy St.). After Oct. 5, approved applicants must pick up their package at the Elections Office, as it will be too late to send and receive it by mail. Completed ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on Oct. 17 to be counted. This year, the City is covering return postage for mail ballots so voters do not need to pay to mail theirs back.
This opportunity is in addition to advance and general voting days, making voting even more convenient for qualified voters.
The Port Coquitlam Election Office must receive the completed mail ballot by 8 p.m. on Oct. 17, 2026.
Who Can Vote?
Resident Electors - to vote in the City of Port Coquitlam election, you must:
Be a resident of the City of Port Coquitlam;
Be 18 years or older as of Oct. 17, 2026;
Be a Canadian citizen;
Be a B.C. resident for at least six months immediately before the day of registration; and
Not disqualified from voting in an election
Non-resident Property Electors - are individuals who own property in the City and live elsewhere in B.C. To vote as a non-resident property elector, you must:
Be a resident of the City of Port Coquitlam;
Be 18 years or older as of Oct. 17, 2026;
Be a Canadian citizen;
Be a B.C. resident for at least six months immediately before the day of registration; and
Not disqualified from voting in an election
Be a registered owner of real property in the City for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration;
Be registered as a non-resident property elector only in relation to one parcel of real property in the City; and
If applicable, have written consent from majority of registered owners.
Please bring two pieces of identification to register, such as a B.C. driver licence or B.C. services card and proof of residency (e.g. a phone bill).
One mayor, six councillors and two school trustees will be elected to four-year terms. Cities are the closest level of government to residents, making decisions about services that affect our everyday lives such as community planning, business zoning, transportation, property taxes, festivals and events; and they provide water, sewer, roads, policing, parks and recreation services.
Voter turnout in Port Coquitlam in 2022 was 18.24 per cent.
