Port Coquitlam families are encouraged to move, create and connect with free activities this Family Day weekend, Feb. 17 to 19.
On Sat., Feb.,17, join an outdoor family dance party in the Terry Fox Hometown Square at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC) from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Hosted by Red Fox Healthy Living Society with artist J Peachy, and supported by the PoCo Youth Leadership Group. The event includes DJ music, an electric dragon, large-scale puppets, arts and crafts, pancakes with an artistic flair, and live music from the Carnival Band.
On Mon., Feb 19, the City and PoCo Heritage are offering free Family Day drop-in activities that include skating, swimming, and arts and culture activities. Pre-registration is required for some activities at portcoquitlam.ca/register.

The Outlet (2248 McAllister Ave.)
- Family Imagination Studio - 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.Families can drop by and make art together in a free-flowing, creative art studio. Celebrate Lunar New Year by making a fiery dancing dragon puppet and decorations. Write blessings to share with friends and loved ones in your own handmade red envelopes. No registration required.
- Pets, Past & Present: A Family Day Poetry Show - 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.PoCo Heritage presents a Family Poetry Show. The Troupe de Poetry will share poems about family pets throughout the years. The poets will sprinkle in little-known stories of animals and pets in our community. For instance, did you know that early crimes in Port Coquitlam were dominated by escaping family pigs and roaming cattle turning up in people's gardens, resulting in fines for their owners? No registration required.
- PoCo Heritage Museum - 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. open to the publicVisit the PoCo Heritage Museum to celebrate families. This is a great chance to bring the whole family by the museum to learn something new about Port Coquitlam's history.
Port Coquitlam Community Centre (2150 Wilson Ave.)
- Family Play and Skate (max. 60 participants) - 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.Interactive on-ice activity zones will be set up for families and their young children to play and learn to skate, including shopping carts, sleds, giant blocks, as well as skating and hockey zones. - Ring, Stick and Puck (max. 24 participants) - 9:15 - 10:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.-12:00 p.m.Free recreational skate to practice ring, stick and puck skills on Arena 2 for those 4yrs plus who can skate.
