Port Coquitlam, BC – April 2, 2025… Join the City of Port Coquitlam in celebrating Earth Day with a vibrant, family-friendly event at the Public Works Yard (1737 Broadway Street), on Saturday, April 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The celebration will feature environmental education booths, and exciting giveaways.
The free family-friendly drop-in event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. rain or shine at the Public Works Yard (1737 Broadway Street). The City is encouraging residents to take part in the activities and initiatives that recognize Earth Day in April.
"Port Coquitlam's Earth Day event makes it easy for residents to get involved with green living by offering free compost and affordable trees, so they can see the benefits right in their own gardens," says Mayor Brad West. "This celebration is a chance for all of us to discover how we can contribute to a greener Port Coquitlam. Even small changes can make a big difference. I hope everyone joins us at the event to learn how we can work together to make our community healthier and greener."
Port Coquitlam residents can take advantage of the following initiatives at the Earth Day event, designed to provide valuable tools and knowledge for sustainable living:
- Free Bark Mulch - Enhance your garden's health and appearance with free bark mulch, available for collection. Bark mulch helps retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature, promoting healthier plant growth. Proof of Port Coquitlam residency is required. Limited quantity per resident and availability based on first come, first served.
- Compost Giveaway - Bring your own shovels and pails to collect free, nutrient-rich compost. This initiative highlights the City's successful waste-reduction efforts, diverting over 6,288 tonnes of yard and food waste. Proof of Port Coquitlam residency is required. Limited quantity per resident and availability based on first come, first served.
- Affordable Trees for Your Yard - Enhance your landscape with trees available for purchase. $25 each. To ensure availability of your preferred tree, residents are encouraged to sign up in advance at portcoquitlam.ca/pocotrees. Choose from:
- Magnolia K Stell Royal Star (Star Magnolia)
- Crataegus Mordenensis Toba (Toba Hawthorn)
- Parrotia Persica (Persian ironwood)
Each tree purchase includes a free watering bag to help your new tree thrive. Trees are limited and available first come first served. Proof of Port Coquitlam residency is required.
- Rain Barrel Sale - Rain barrels offer a cost-effective way to water your garden, reducing your water consumption. Purchase a 200L rain barrel for $56 (including tax) and embrace sustainable gardening practices. Proof of Port Coquitlam residency is required.

McCurrach, council designate for arts, culture and heritage and environment. “We want to help everyone make small changes that, together, make our community a cleaner and healthier place to live.”
