Enroll In The City’s Property Tax And Utility Prepayment Plan

News

The City of Port Coquitlam encourages residents to take advantage of its Property Tax and Utility Prepayment Plan, a program designed to make budgeting easier for both property taxes and utility bills. The deadline to sign up for the upcoming cycle is July 15, 2026.

This established plan allows property owners to spread their estimated annual bill property tax and utility bill over 12 manageable monthly pre-authorized withdrawals, effectively acting as a savings account for their upcoming bills. Starting July 31, enrolled property owners will have monthly withdrawals taken directly from their bank account. These prepayments accumulate in a dedicated tax account, ready to be applied to your next annual utility and property tax bills which will clearly show the total amount prepaid and any remaining balance owing.

Key Benefits of the Property Tax and Utility Prepayment Plan

  • Estimated property tax and utility bills can be spread over 12 months for more manageable payments.

  • Prepayment accounts earn monthly interest at a rate equal to the prime rate of TD Bank less 4%.

  • Interest earned and applied to taxes is not considered personal income and is therefore not subject to income tax.

  • In most cases, penalties are avoided when all payments are met and the homeowner grant is successfully claimed.

  • There are no additional administrative fees to participate in the plan.

  • Automatic monthly withdrawals convenience added convenience, with no need to remember manual payments.

Residents ready to simplify their property tax and utility payments are encouraged to enroll or learn more by visiting portcoquitlam.ca/prepayment. Remember to enroll by July 15. Additional Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) are also available on the website.
