Food Trucks Setting Up This Weekend At Lions Park

News

Head down to Lions Park this weekend for the City's second annual Food Truck Weekends at Lions Park.

The food truck program was initiated last summer to animate a park space and to encourage and support the growing food truck industry. The program will run until Sept. 29 which allows a food truck to operate at Lions Park (2300 Lions Way).

Food Trucks

Food trucks attending Lions Park this weekend are as follows:

  • Beaver Tails - Fri., June 14 - 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Say Cheese - Sat., June 15 - 12:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Vendors will choose their own operating hours between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. daily. Visit portcoquitlam.ca/foodtrucks for the listing of upcoming food trucks.

Lions Park is a popular park with many amenities such as picnic facilities and washrooms. A designated location for one food truck will operate in the parking lot. This location ensures a flat, hard surface for a truck to park, provides good visibility, safe access for customers and limits impact to park users.

Application Process

Any food truck or cart operator that meets the base requirements are invited to apply for desired dates over the summer; the space will generally be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with some consideration given to ensuring a mix of food options. Special Event Business Licenses are available to all food truck vendors including out of town businesses for the day for $25.

The project is intended to support opportunities for food trucks in our community by having:

  • A streamlined and simplified application process;
  • A designated location for a food truck
  • A continuous intake of applications

In keeping with current requirements for food trucks operating at special events, all food trucks will be required to meet the following requirements:

  • Health approval (Fraser Health, Coastal Health etc.)
  • Greater Vancouver Fire Chief's Association (GVFCA) inspection decal
  • Automotive Liability insurance with minimum $5 million liability with an ICBC Confirmation of Automobile Insurance Coverage.

Food trucks operating in Lions Park will be required to have $5M liability insurance naming the City as additional insured party.

Follow the City's social media channels for information on the vendors.

Food truck vendors can apply online at portcoquitlam.ca/foodtrucks.
