After months of creation with community members, the "Mix and Match Creatures" are finally ready for their debut! Join Artist in Residence, Nickie Lewis, on August 24 at Lions Park from 11:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m., where you can interact with the hybrid creatures and dress them up with hand-made accessories.
This fun-filled event will also feature a special workshop with Nickie Lewis, who will teach participants how to create woven hearts with sticks and twine. In addition, Nickie will showcase an assortment of other creature creations and new works in progress. Registration is encouraged at portcoquitlam.ca/register. Children 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Nickie Lewis is a visual artist who specializes in creating organic eco-sculptures using sticks, moss, and other plants. Her fully biodegradable sculptures are inspired by the shapes and forms found in nature.
Nickie's art aims to educate people about environmental impact, encourage sustainable practices, and spread a touch of earthly magic into unexpected places.
During her summer residency in Lions Park, Nickie has been working on the "Mix and Match Creatures" project, a community-engaged sculptural initiative where workshop participants assist in creating creatures from natural materials found in the park.
Come and be part of this unique experience, learn new skills, and celebrate the creativity of the Port Coquitlam community.
