Join Us For Car Free Day On McAllister Avenue On Sept. 7

Downtown Port Coquitlam will come alive with entertainment, culture, food, and fun activities this Sunday, September 7, as the City hosts its second annual Car Free Day. Presented by TransLink and in partnership with the City, this family-friendly street party on McAllister Avenue promises a day filled with excitement for all ages.

Everyone is invited to join the festivities on McAllister Avenue from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. The event will feature two stage areas with live entertainment, a variety of food and local craft beverages, engaging displays, and numerous family activities.

As part of its commitment to promoting sustainable transportation, TransLink is proud to support Car Free Day. This year's Ride & Shine Campaign will offer a bike valet service, discounts to local summer destinations, and a series of Car Free festivals.

Car Free Day on McAllister Avenue: Sept. 7, 12:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Car-free days take place across the country and aims to inspire people to get out of their cars, interact with each other, and explore alternative modes of transportation.

Parking, Road Closures and Detours

The following traffic/safety control measures will be put into place Saturday Sept. 7.

Street closures from 6:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.:

  • McAllister Avenue from Shaughnessy Street to Mary Hill Road
  • Donald Street from McAllister Avenue to Wilson Avenue

Getting to Car Free Day

Event-goers are encouraged to take transit, walk or cycle to the festival. There will be a free bike valet to park bikes with ease in a secured area.

Take Transit by taking one of the many bus routes - the 159, 160, 170, 173, 174, and 188 all a few minutes' walk away from McAllister Avenue.Car Free Day is funded by Translink.

WHL Pre-season Games

The City of Port Coquitlam will be hosting two Western Hockey League (WHL) pre-season games - Vancouver Giants vs. Victoria Royals on Sat. Sept. 7 at 7:00 p.m and on Sun. Sept. 8 at 2:00 p.m at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC) - Jon Baillie Arena. Tickets will be available to purchase for $16 (plus tax) at PCCC.
