Construction on Phase 3 of the Kingsway Avenue Upgrades project is expected to begin in early June and continue until February 2027, weather permitting. Work on this City capital project will take place between McLean Avenue and Coast Meridian Road and at Tyner Street.
Phase 1 delivered a new multi-use pathway along the north side of Kingsway, completed in December 2024. Phase 2 brought lane reconfigurations to the corridor, completed in November 2025. Phase 3 builds on these improvements with further signal, sidewalk, and traffic flow upgrades between McLean Avenue and Coast Meridian Road.
Improvements include:
intersection traffic flow improvements
traffic signal upgrades
lane reconfiguration and inclusion of a shared centre left-turn lane
sidewalk installation
drainage and sanitary sewer upgrades
lighting upgrades
Construction will take place during daytime hours between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with Saturday work on an as-needed basis. Work near intersections requiring signal operation changes will take place between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., Monday to Friday, with Saturday night work on an as-needed basis.
Two-way traffic will be maintained during morning and evening rush hours and at other times whenever possible. Where two-way traffic cannot be maintained, single-lane alternating traffic will be implemented. Detours may also be in place at various points during construction. Some sections of the multi-use pathway may be temporarily impacted, and signage will be in place to direct users.
Commuters are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes whenever possible.
Businesses and properties in the area are expected to remain accessible throughout construction. The City and contractor will work to minimize impacts where possible, and advance notice will be provided if temporary access interruptions are required.
