Love Where You Live – Celebrate Your Neighbourhood With A Block Party

News

Love where you live? Host a Block Party for your neighbourhood. A Block Party is an opportunity for neighbours to collaborate and organize a gathering in their neighbourhood.

There are many locations a block party can take place in, such as common spaces in townhouse complexes, on a street or back alley, backyard, a City park or in front of an apartment building. With spring weather here and summer just around the corner, the longer evenings provide the perfect opportunity to get outside and meet your neighbours.

Building on the success of last year, where 35 block parties brought over 1,300 neighbours together across the City, residents are once again invited to host their own. Applications are now open and can be submitted online at portcoquitlam.ca/blockparty. The first 35 block parties approved will receive a $150 Freshmart gift certificate to help towards the cost of food and party supplies, along with a City branded BBQ apron. Block party formats are chosen by residents and can range from a BBQ picnic, potluck or a gathering at one of the many City parks that offer an opportunity to enjoy a beverage outdoors and can be held throughout the summer, afternoon or evening

The Block Party application includes the option to request a visit from the Port Coquitlam Fire Department through the Hot Summer Nights program, giving participants an opportunity to check out a fire truck and learn more about home fire safety. Block Party organizers can also request to have a local street or cul-de-sac closed off, with free barriers provided by our generous sponsor, Dynamic Equipment. The City is committed to enhancing safety for all participants and can provide guidance and support for additional security measures as needed.

The City of Port Coquitlam extends its appreciation to the Downtown Port Coquitlam Business Improvement Association (PoCo BIA), Dynamic Equipment and PoCo Freshmart, for their generous financial contributions and support of the Block Party program.

The City invites neighbourhoods to share their Block Party moments.  Tag the City via their social media channels or send photos to [email protected].
