Early Season Heat Event

Early season heat is coming! Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement: Starting Saturday, June 7 and into early next week, a ridge of high pressure is bringing high temperatures to the region. Daytime highs are expected to be in the high 20's to low 30's with overnight lows in the low to mid teens.

Early-season heat can be significant due to the lack of acclimatization to elevated temperatures. Stay safe and cool:

  • Know where to find a cool indoor space. Come on into our recreation centres during business hours!
  • Visit one of our FREE outdoor pools or spray parks.
  • Check in on those who may be more at risk.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Find shelter or shade.
  • Avoid strenuous activities during the hottest parts of the day.
  • Keep pets hydrated, never leave them in a hot car, take them out for exercise during the cooler parts of the day.
  • Put on a hat, sunscreen, and lightweight clothing.
  • Cool off at home with a cold shower or bath.
  • Know the signs of heat-related illness.
