Port Coquitlam’s Terry Fox To Be Next Canadian Featured On The $5 Bill

Port Coquitlam, BC – DECEMBER 16, 2024… The City of Port Coquitlam is proud to learn that Terry Fox, the City’s hometown hero, legendary athlete, humanitarian, and cancer research activist, will be the new face of Canada’s $5 bill.
 
"Terry Fox’s legacy transcends differences—his courage and determination continues to inspire and unite not just his hometown of Port Coquitlam, but people from all over the world.” said Mayor Brad West. “On behalf of the people of Port Coquitlam, I want to express our immense pride that our hometown hero, is being honoured as the new face on Canada's $5 bill."
 
This historic decision celebrates the enduring legacy of a true Canadian hero whose Marathon of Hope continues to inspire millions around the world. Terry Fox’s story is one of extraordinary courage, determination, and selflessness. Terry captured the hearts of Canadians when, in 1980, he set out on his cross-country journey to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. Though his run was cut short, his dream lives on, with over $850 million raised in his name for cancer research through the annual Terry Fox Run.
