Public Works Week

Public Works Week celebrates, supports, and amplifies the contributions made by public works staff to provide services that residents use every day. In Port Coquitlam, the Public Works division provides waste collection services and maintains and improves City infrastructure, such as streets and sidewalks; parks, trails and public spaces; the sewer, water and drainage system; and the City fleet.

Public Works Open House

In celebration of Public Works Week, we host an annual Public Works Open House — a free, fun, family-friendly event where residents can get a behind-the-scenes look at all things Public Works!

May 23, 2026
10am-2pm
Public Works Yard (1737 Broadway St)

Visitors can explore festival style activities for all ages, including:

  • Hands on displays featuring Public Works services such as waste sorting, drinking water, snow response, gardening and more

  • Heavy equipment showcase with vehicles and demonstrations including a garbage truck, backhoe, snowplow, sign making and traffic signal demonstrations

  • Free children’s activities including balloon animals, buggy rides, flower planting and tractor pulled hay rides

  • BBQ by donation in support of SHARE Family and Community Services

  • Free compost, while supplies last, for residents who bring their own containers

  • Giveaways and more

This year’s National Public Works Week theme, “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community,” reflects the essential role public works professionals play in supporting daily life and helping communities thrive.
