Maddy is 16 years old and has been volunteering in Port Coquitlam since 2023.  She has earned over 128 hours in a variety of programs such as Children’s Camps, One Day Adventure Camps and Community Events. Her hours are continuing to grow as she is signed up to help in programs this Winter and Spring.  She is an amazing asset to the City of Port Coquitlam’s Volunteer Team, and we thank Maddy for all her hard work and dedication to making our programs and events great!

How and why did you get started in volunteering?

I started volunteering to fulfill my volunteer graduation requirements.  I also wanted to get out of my comfort zone and get some experience. I realized quickly that I really enjoyed it!  It was a lot of fun working with the children and gave me some great experience because I want to be a child psychologist when I am older.

What are your most memorable moments during your volunteering experience?

I love all the places that I get to go while volunteering. Through Children’s Camps I got to explore places like Grouse Mountain, the Space Centre and the parks and nature around Port Coquitlam.  I will always remember this one child.  He was super funny, always being silly and wherever the camp was going he always brough his roller suitcase with him! We were at the peak of Grouse and there he was heading into the forest with this suitcase.  Something I will always remember.

What keeps you coming back to volunteer?

Being around the staff and coming back to see the children.  I have met so many children, and it is really rewarding to get to know them and watch them grow up.  I have volunteered for just over two years now, but I have seen many children excel and grow in lots of different programs.  Volunteering also gets me out of the house, working with different people and it is super fun!

What do you love most about our community and being a part of it?

Our community is so positive and kind.  Everyone is always working together to fix problems and to make Port Coquitlam the wonderful City it is!
