Celebrating Terry Fox's Legacy – Exhibit Opens April 12 in Port Coquitlam

News

The City of Port Coquitlam will host the grand opening of the “Terry Fox: Inspiring Local Champions” exhibit on April 12th, commemorating the 45th anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope.

The exhibit, located at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC), honours Terry Fox as a hometown hero, highlighting his resilience, determination, and community spirit. It also showcases Port Coquitlam’s history of local champions and community builders. Interactive displays and artifacts provide an immersive and engaging experience for visitors, connecting them with Terry Fox's legacy and inspiring them through his story.

Artifacts on display, on loan from the Fox family and the Terry Fox Centre, include Terry Fox’s spare prosthetic leg, an adidas running shoe, and a Marathon of Hope t-shirt, alongside items from his high school years. The interactive Terry Fox timeline will allow visitors to explore his early years in Port Coquitlam.

In addition to Terry Fox, the exhibit showcases Port Coquitlam champions. Colourful ceiling banners feature celebrated sports figures, including athletes and coaches. Visitors can explore the City’s sports history through a new interactive digital Sport Hall of Fame to learn about local athletes who have competed nationally and internationally, including Olympians and professional athletes, and test their sports trivia knowledge.

Visitors of all ages will also be able to develop their own champion avatar based on their passions and unique character traits.

City street banners, already installed and celebrating PoCo Sport Hall of Fame athletes and Terry Fox, will promote the exhibit and the City’s sporting heritage. These banners, inspired by the exhibit’s design, are part of the City-wide celebration.
