PoCo Best Biz Awards

Launched in 2013, the PoCo Best Biz Awards are part of the City’s efforts to support the local economy. They are intended to recognize the contributions businesses make to the community, celebrate their accomplishments, and encourage Port Coquitlam residents to shop locally for goods and services.

Categories

Businesses may be nominated in one of the following four categories:

Innovative universal benefits for employees that differentiates them from other businesses with some or all of the following characteristics:

  • Goes above and beyond for employees
  • Has a strong focus on employee development and retention
  • Provides a healthy work environment for employees or encourages a healthy lifestyle

A business with 10 or fewer employees with some or all of the following characteristics:

  • Has drawn positive attention to Port Coquitlam through its business success, innovation or marketing.
  • Shows leadership in social and cultural responsibility through volunteerism, advocacy, sponsorship, financial and in-kind contributions.
  • Provides outstanding customer service.

A business with more than 11 employees with some or all of the following characteristics:

  • Has drawn positive attention to Port Coquitlam through its business success, innovation or marketing.
  • Shows leadership in social and cultural responsibility through volunteerism, advocacy, sponsorship, financial and in-kind contributions.
  • Provides outstanding customer service.

A home-based business with some or all of the following characteristics:

  • Has demonstrated significant growth and sustainability in business operations and a commitment to excellent customer service.
  • The nominee has shown creativity and innovation in overcoming the common challenges facing small businesses.

All nominees will be entered for the People’s Choice Award, which will be voted on by the public from October 16-22. This award goes to a business chosen by the community as a demonstrating overall excellence in business and outstanding positive contribution to the community.

How it Works

  • Anyone can nominate either their own or someone else’s business by using the online nomination form. Self nomination are encouraged.
  • Nominators are encouraged to shoot a video of up to one minute to make their nomination stand out. Keep your video simple, short and snappy, and have fun with it!

  • All nominees are entered for the People’s Choice Award, selected by the public.
  • Winners will be chosen by a panel of representatives from the City and the business community, and announced at the PoCo Best Biz Awards Celebration.

Port Coquitlam’s businesses provide jobs, bring shopping and amenities to our community, and contribute to our tax base.

A nomination for a PoCo Best Biz Award:

  • Recognizes and raises the profile of excellent local businesses. Nominees are promoted in City ads, the website and social media, and will be celebrated at the awards evening.
  • Shows local businesses they are valued and encourages them to continue to do a great job.
  • Supports our local economy, which benefits us all.

Video Nominations

Businesses are invited to create a video nomination of up to one minute long for the PoCo Best Biz Awards.

The videos will provide additional information to the awards selection committee and the public when selecting the People’s Choice Award.

They will be shared with the community through the City website and social media, and they are a great way to promote your business to the community.

Its easy to create your video

The video nominations are not intended to be costly or professional. If you don’t have a video camera, most digital cameras, smartphones and tablet computers have a HD video recorder.

The only criteria is the videos must be under 60 seconds and must be HD quality.

  • Showcase what makes your business different.
  • Tell us why your business is deserving of an award.
  • Be yourself and have fun!
