Graffiti can negatively impact neighbourhoods by damaging property, reducing community pride, and creating the perception that an area is unsafe or neglected. Prompt removal is one of the most effective ways to prevent repeat graffiti. When graffiti is removed within 72 hours, it is less likely to reappear in the same location.
Leaving graffiti in place can signal that a property or area is not actively monitored, increasing the risk of additional vandalism and other disorder. Acting quickly not only helps maintain a clean, welcoming community but can also make removal easier and reduce the need for repainting or harsh cleaning products.
Report graffiti on City property
When you report graffiti or vandalism on City property, we remove it within 48 hours. Report graffiti to help keep our community clean and well-cared for.
Report graffiti on private property
Graffiti cleanup on private property is the responsibility of the property owner and should be addressed as soon as possible to help prevent further vandalism.
- First, report the graffiti Coquitlam RCMP and obtain a police file number
- Next, report the graffiti to Port Coquitlam Community Policing:
- In person at either of our two Community Police Offices
- By email at [email protected]
- Once the required information has been received and reviewed, Community Policing may issue a coupon if requested that can be used to access discounted paint and supplies through our partner, Sherwin-Williams Paints, to assist with graffiti removal
When submitting a graffiti report for private property, please be prepared to provide:
- the location of the graffiti
- a description of the graffiti
- photographs taken by the affected property owner or occupant
- the date and approximate time, if known
- the Coquitlam RCMP police file number
