A new lawn – placing of sod, turf or by seeding – or landscaping requires a permit in order to be exempt from the water use restrictions.
Apply for a Watering Permit
When region-wide water use restrictions are in effect from May 1 to October 15, you can apply for a watering permit in Stage 1 or 2 of restrictions if you are growing a new lawn by seed or sod. We encourage residents to carefully consider any work that may require a permit before commencing, given the heightened regional water shortage risk.
PLEASE NOTE: Stage 3 water restrictions are expected to begin in early June, at which point lawn watering will be prohibited and ALL WATERING PERMITS WILL NO LONGER BE VALID. Please take this into consideration prior to submitting a watering permit application. No refunds will be issued.
If the permit is issued:
- The permit allows lawn watering for three hours on any day of the week between 4:00am and 9:00am for the duration of the permit.
- The permit is valid for a period of 21 days from the date of issuance.
- The permit is $30.
- The permit will remain valid for the duration stated or until Stage 3 restrictions come into effect. No new permits will be issued once Stage 3 restrictions are in force. Once Stage 3 restrictions are in force, all permits will be immediately invalid. No refunds will be issued.
Your permit application will be reviewed upon submission. If approved, you will be contacted for payment within 1-3 business days of the application date. View Fees & Charges Bylaw here.
*Please note: This is not a nematode permit. Apply for a nematode permit here.
